As the air quality in Delhi continues to deteriorate, education minister Atishi announced the extension of the closure of primary schools in the national capital until November 10. The decision comes in response to the persistently high levels of air pollution, with the region grappling with hazardous conditions due to various local and environmental factors.
Atishi communicated the decision via social media platform X, emphasizing the necessity to prioritize the health and well-being of students during this critical period. While primary schools remain shut, provisions have been made for grades 6-12 to transition to online classes to ensure continuity in education.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had previously declared a holiday for all government and private primary schools in Delhi on Friday as the pollution levels crossed into the 'Severe' category, adversely affecting the residents' health and well-being. The city continues to battle the consequences of unfavorable meteorological conditions, vehicular emissions, stubble burning, and local pollution sources, leading to a persistent haze and alarming levels of pollution in the region.
As pollution levels continue to remain high, primary schools in Delhi will stay closed till 10th November.
